The Bundesverband Naturkost Naturwaren (BNN) e.V. represents the interests of the specialised organic food trade on a political and economical level. The BNN is participating in the creation of national and international law proposals, i.e. the further development of the EU-Eco-Regulation. Furthermore, BNN practices intensive public relations activities. The Association develops specific quality guidelines for specialised organic food retailers, such as an orientation value for pesticides and the resolution for a full declaration of all food ingredients. The BNN Monitoring of fruit and vegetables and the BNN Monitoring of shelf-stable products complete the established process controls in the specialised organic food trade.
The BNN offers many opportunities to facilitate the dialogue between the member companies and promotes open information and opinion exchange in the specialised organic food trade. Amongst its members are producers, wholesalers and retailers, distributors and importers of organic products. The Association and its members are engaged in the further development of the market of organic food and products and therefore also in securing employment in the different regions.
The BNN is a member of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) and the Bund Ökologische Lebensmittelwirtschaft (Association of the Ecological Food Trade, BÖLW). Amongst its member companies are over 220 wholesalers and retailers, distributors and transformers of organic food and organic products from Germany, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Austria and Spain. The member companies are part of a sector-related tradition in which values such as openness and transparency, global quality and fair trade are of high significance.
