BNN-Monitoring of shelf-stable products
Since July 2012 BNN e.V. offers, in addition to the well-known monitoring of fruit and vegetables, a Monitoring for the food range which does not require cooling /refrigeration.
The coordination office of the BNN-Monitoring is responsible for the steering and coordination and supports the companies in the assessment of pesticide detections, the tracking of their causes and the communication with control bodies and competent authorities. Moreover, the exchange between companies and experts on actual issues, such as pesticide residue analysis, is intensified through workshops. Also plasticizers in vegetable oils are in the scope of the BNN-Monitoring.
The catalyst for the development of the BNN-Monitoring of shelf stable products was the detection of glyphosate in Turkish organic lentils in spring 2011. In several preparatory meetings, concerned BNN members and other parties decided on the creation of a joint online database which also includes the dispatch of warning messages.
The funding of the BNN-Monitoring is secured through the attending companies over their yearly fees and a one-time cost sharing fee for the creation of the database. Companies that are not members of BNN e.V. can also participate, albeit at double the cost.
